I’m assuming you’re asking about the brightness of the display. I’ve never had a problem with display brightness on my R580. As for hibernate, I don’t use it. I simply turn the machine on and off since it boots as fast as it does. I have never been a fan of hibernation, except in one specific use case: virtualization. As for the numeric keypad, mine works both as an editing keypad and with the num lock key set, as a regular numeric entry keypad.

Unfortunately it still does not have the application support to make it successful. This is not saying that it’s not a great OS, because it is. Until it can run everyday off the shelf applications like Windows and OSX does, it will never be successful. I think it’s going in the right direction though and I can see it eventually making it there. As long as MS supports Windows 7 I’ll run that on my PC. But that’s the last stop for me. I won’t move to 8 and onwards. Although OSX is not Linux, it’s close enough for me and does run many commercial applications I need to use.

I use to feel the need to update ubuntu every 6 months in order to keep software up to date. Since it is no longer needed to update the whole OS to recieve app updates I have no problem sticking with an LTS version. In fact I’m still running 12.04 right now and am not in any hurry to update. I probally will update to Xubuntu 14.04 when I get the chance though, It is true though that Ubuntu an it varriation have really made great progress in making Linux easier to use. To bad to many linux users are hating on it for stupid reasons. Seems like there are to many people just watching them to find a reason to be pissed off.

I’ve been trying Ubuntu for a couple years on my older desktop. Currently running Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (I think).

My main machine is running XP and I’m not going to continue with Microsoft. It appears the timing of this latest Ubuntu is absolutely brilliant! hope lots of people give it a try.

Biggest concern for some – photography folks – might be the support for photoshop type software, but 8bit GIMP (w/UFraw) works fine for me.

LTS is the way to go for me; like the stability. Rumor has it that Mint will follow. I will probably go with Ubuntu, but — maybe Mint ….. will see.
