may day, may day, may day

It’s the first day of May. My wife and I have been in a self-imposed lockdown since the first of February, long before our moronic governor finally issued his limited lockdown orders. Our Orlando mayor did a much better job earlier and more extensively in early March, complete with a nightly curfew.

I see on John Hopkin’s COVID-19 Dashboard ( https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 )that the total confirmed cases is over 3.3 million worldwide, with roughly a third of them in the US at over 1.1 million. Total world-wide deaths is 238,380 people. Total official US deaths stand at 64,789 people, which I firmly believe is undercounted. It wouldn’t surprise me if the number were double that because coronavirus reporting is so scattershot in this country. That holds true as well for the confirmed cases in the US.

To make matters worse, at least for Florida, the state has halted the publication of up-to-the-minute death statistics related to the coronavirus pandemic that have, by law, been compiled by medical examiners in the state.

The death count compiled by the Medical Examiners Commission was often found to be higher than the figures provided by Florida’s Department of Health, the Tampa Bay Times reported, prompting a review of the data and a suspension of its publication.

No official explanation has been given, but considering how DeSantis has his lips firmly planted on Trumps backside whenever possible, no explanation is necessary.

To top it all off, Florida is reopening its state parks because our Governor Moron cites a DHS study on sunlight killing COVID-19 to justify them. Of course, DeSantis defended the reopening of Jacksonville beaches because state data shows an outbreak has not occurred in Duval county (where Jax is located) since the reopening of the beaches. You know, the same state data that now excludes the death count compiled by the Medical Examiners Commission because it makes Tallahassee look even more bad and stupid than DeSantis and his merrily thieving GOP band in the state house.

another grim record set as over 300,000 americans confirmed with coronavirus

The numbers keep on climbing: the number of confirmed coronavirus/COVID-19 cases in the US has passed 300,000, and the numbers are still climbing. New York City is saying that their peak should hit in four to eight days. California has a 50,000 COVID-19 testing backlog that are many days overdue. This backlog is due to just one testing facility in California run by Quest Diagnostics. I’m fully aware of Quest in Florida, and I do everything in my power to go somewhere else if possible; they’re that bad. It’s incredibly bad that California is dependent upon that group for something so absolutely vital.

Speaking of Florida, we’ve got over 11,000 so far, with 657 confirmed in Orange County so far, where I live. The majority of cases are down in the Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach area, with over 6,000 – and climbing. Our idiot governor was late to shut down the state in general, and the beaches in particular, because he didn’t want to disturb the spring breakers. They manages to take back a few coronavirus surprises to their homes, with obvious results.
