Not since the 50s and 60s has racial inequality and racism been so blatant, so violent, so deadly to black Americans. You’d think that by the second decade of the 21st century we, as a nation, would have moved well beyond this. But as has been documented too often for too long (just look at what happened in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland for just two recent examples) racism is thriving in this country. Which just goes to show it never went away, it just went underground. And as the Republicans have shown in this presidential election cycle, it’s something to be catered to for votes.
Welcome to the New America, same as the Old America.
