annie’s seventh big birthday

Annie’s official birthday is 12 February, 2015. But we celebrate her birthday on Valentine’s day, because she has a white heart-shaped mark on her brisket. That’s no different than calling the Gingersnaps, Beau and Luke, our Halloween Gingers even though they were born on 10 October.

Annie is still rambunctious and crazy energetic, running around the yard and house and always pulling ahead on the lead on our walks. Ruby, who’ll turn 14 in August, is the sedate and calm one (except when the doorbell rings, and then both dogs get excited). I think Ruby gets embarrassed by Annie’s behavior on occasion, but they’re rather tight as far as doggies go.

I’ve always thought of Annie as our living Muppet. We trim her on occasion, but it’s not long before her naturally curly hair is back out in full force. Best thing I can do (with both dogs) is to bath them regularly, especially Annie, to keep her hair from matting. The lead photo is blurry due to motion blur on Annie’s part. I have an opportunity to try and get something a little better between now and Valentines.

This photo was taken July 2015, two weeks after Annie arrived. She was small enough back then that we tried a special harness for her instead of a regular collar.

I can’t believe that seven years have passed for either dog. Then again I can’t believe I’m retired. But that gives me more time to spend with all the little animals, for which they all seem very grateful.

christmas caterday

A Christmas Caturday is a special Christmas Day and a special Caturday. So in that spirit I present a series of cat photos (along with one of Annie the Doodle) to help celebrate the Christmas season. The first photo in the sequence is Luke in his usual morning kitchen location, with our Christmas tree in back and out of focus. And his classic look…

Danï with all her toes pulled in and looking fabulous.

Litter sister Zoë keeping eyes out for lizards.

One more of Luke looking coy.

Last, but by no means least, Annie looks around to keep up with a house full of cats.

Except for the first photo, which was taken with the Panasonic Leica 1.4/25mm, all others were taken with my Christmas present to me, a heavily-discounted-because-it’s-refurbished Olympus M.Zuiko 1.8/75mm prime. I got it because it’s my little gift to me for a long year, and because refurbished it was less than half the prince of the 1.2/45mm PRO, making it a lot more affordable.

As far as I can tell so far it’s an outstanding lens even wide open at f/1.8. At a 150mm equivalent it allows me more distance between the animals and myself, helping to better catch them photographically. I used to be a heavy user of 135mm film lenses from Minolta and then Olympus, so working with this lens isn’t a challenge at all in spite of a number of 75mm lens reviews.

The body on all these was the Pen F.
