annie’s seventh big birthday

Annie’s official birthday is 12 February, 2015. But we celebrate her birthday on Valentine’s day, because she has a white heart-shaped mark on her brisket. That’s no different than calling the Gingersnaps, Beau and Luke, our Halloween Gingers even though they were born on 10 October.

Annie is still rambunctious and crazy energetic, running around the yard and house and always pulling ahead on the lead on our walks. Ruby, who’ll turn 14 in August, is the sedate and calm one (except when the doorbell rings, and then both dogs get excited). I think Ruby gets embarrassed by Annie’s behavior on occasion, but they’re rather tight as far as doggies go.

I’ve always thought of Annie as our living Muppet. We trim her on occasion, but it’s not long before her naturally curly hair is back out in full force. Best thing I can do (with both dogs) is to bath them regularly, especially Annie, to keep her hair from matting. The lead photo is blurry due to motion blur on Annie’s part. I have an opportunity to try and get something a little better between now and Valentines.

This photo was taken July 2015, two weeks after Annie arrived. She was small enough back then that we tried a special harness for her instead of a regular collar.

I can’t believe that seven years have passed for either dog. Then again I can’t believe I’m retired. But that gives me more time to spend with all the little animals, for which they all seem very grateful.
