election 2020 — the day after

So here I am, my head down, refusing to “doom read” the news, until I couldn’t stand it any longer and I checked the numbers via The Washington Post. And the Post greeted me with the possibility that the election would end with with both Biden and Trump tied in the electoral college. Hells bells.

If this holds, then you’d think the tie-breaker would be the popular vote, in which Biden leads comfortably. But the Republicans will challenge this every step of the way in order to cheat their way in.

What bothers me is North Carolina. For the longest period North Carolina was leaning heavily towards Biden. Now it shows leaning Trump, but they’re still counting outstanding votes. I hope it swings back to Biden the way Virginia did. For the longest time last night, Virginia was headed to the Trump side, until I woke up this morning and discovered it was Biden’s.

But I refuse to hope for anything. Once again I let myself hope based on the forecasting of the pollsters, and once again, I feel like I’ve been kicked in the stomach. No more, they’re fired.

Finally, who the hell voted for Trump? After four years and a pandemic and all his lies, you re-elected an impeached president? What kind of sick, moral rot do we have in this country?
